House Republicans are planning votes on legislation dealing with some of the nation’s most controversial issues this month. The strategy is unlikely to pass any laws but should put Democrats in uncomfortable positions on the issues.
The move starts this week with a vote to repeal the healthcare reform law, Politico reports. Next week comes a vote on defense spending. Then come votes on bills to ease regulatory burdens and finally votes on tax rates and tax reform.
Outside groups are prepared to launch publicity campaigns after the votes to alert constituents of unpopular votes by their Democratic representatives. For example, the American Action Network plans to spend more than $1 million on print advertisements, mail, robocalls, and web videos to hit Democrats who vote for Obamacare and to support Republicans who vote to repeal it.
