Despite speculation that Karl Rove’s future at the Fox News Channel was in peril, on Thursday the network announced that the former Bush administration deputy chief of staff would be returning to the network as a contributor.

According to a release from the network, Rove has signed a multi-year deal that will extend through the 2016 presidential election.

“Karl’s detailed knowledge of state and national politics, as well as fundraising and strategy, makes him an important player in our ongoing political coverage and we look forward to him continuing his analysis across all platforms for FOX News and FOX Business,” Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said in the statement.
